February 3, 2014
The three dimensional aspect of Carved Relief Paintings cannot be replicated by a painting alone and really adds to the unique appeal of each art piece. Though relief carvings are not as popular as other forms of wood carving, it is gaining in popularity because of its versatility as a medium of artistic expression. Incorporating these unique pieces of art can help you turn your home from ordinary to extraordinary!
Relief carving is a sculptural form in which figures are carved in a flat panel of wood. The figures project only slightly from the background rather than standing freely. The carving can be described as "carving pictures in wood". The process of relief carving involves removing wood from a flat wood panel in such a way that an object appears to rise out of the wood. Relief carving begins with a design idea, usually put to paper in the form of a master pattern which is then transferred to the wood surface. Most relief carving is done with hand tools.
La Fuente's Carved Relief Paintings are exquisitely hand-carved into relief and then painstakingly hand-painted by master artisans in Mexico. The calming images of rural Mexican life are sure to infuse southwestern charm and beauty anywhere in your home. Each carved relief painting is available in multiple sizes by special order.
All of our Carved Relief Paintings are carved from wood sourced from forests certified and managed under the guidelines set forth by CERTFOR and endorsed by PEFC. Certification requires the implementation of long-term sustainable forest management and harvesting practices that conserve bio-diversity, reduce carbon expenditures and respect indigenous cultures.
