Ideas for Decorating with Red

October 21, 2013

Red is exciting, attention getting, powerful and a simply beautiful color to decorate with. Many choose to paint red on an accent wall, but if you're really bold and paint the whole room make sure that you have incorporated good lighting. Good lighting combined with your new red walls should create warmth. If red walls seem just too much for you then try introducing the color red in accessories, wall accents and draperies. Many designers believe that when it comes to red, less is often more; we think it's more of a personal preference.

According to Katie Ridder, "Every room should have a touch of red — in a welt to offset a paler color, in a pillow or a trim on a lampshade to add some jazz," says. "It makes colors around it more interesting."

"Red can go everywhere from cheery and happy to angry and aggressive," says designer Don Raney of Civility Design. "Red is a color that needs to be well-thought-out, as well as the shade itself," says Jaymes Richardson also of Civility Design.
