New Mexico Furniture

July 24, 2015

Handmade in Angel Fire, New Mexico, every piece of furniture in the New Mexico Furniture Collection is crafted with the greatest possible care, talent and attention to detail. The collection really grabs your attention and it becomes love at first sight.

It has been said that Angel Fire is "named for the fiery afternoon light splashed on alpine peaks". The legend behind the name is that the Moache Utes used to gather to renew their ancestral ties with the Great Spirit, and during one of these autumnal celebrations, during the 1780s, three young braves returned to camp from a hunting trip and told of a strange glow at the tip of a peak called Agua Fria. The Utes were a little unsettled as they gazed at this mysterious splash of orange and red flickering in the northern sky. Then the awed silence was broken when one of the elders exclaimed, "it is an omen, the fire of the gods, blessing our annual celebration." Thereafter, whenever that rosy glow was seen it was called "fire of the gods". When Franciscan friars were trying to spread their influence, Agua Fria's "fire of the gods" became known as "the place of the fire of the angels".

Seeing the turquoise sideboards, bookcases or occasional tables for the first time really caught my eye. These piece are available in many colors, the texture, color and richness of the culture in New Mexico is all there. Constructed only from kiln-dried maple and other high quality materials, each unique piece is a functional work of art, both visually stunning and exceptionally well made. Finishing the pieces with hand-scraped edges and bright accent colors ensures their presence will enhance any space.

The Large New Mexico Sideboard is solidly-built but lovingly detailed in both design and character. The carved and painted elements create a striking contrast between the dark wood and the accent colors. This sideboard features three ample cabinets, all with a center shelf to conveniently store your dishware. It also includes three deep drawers with plenty of storage space for your silverware. The doors and drawers feature gunmetal iron hardware.

It is really worth your time to see some the other key items in this collection. It really speaks to the culture and pride of the artisans from this region.
