Thoughts on Displaying Artwork

February 15, 2018

Displaying artwork at home is a wondrous way to express your own individual taste. Whether you are an avid collector or a part time dabbler, the art you choose to put on your wall makes a statement about your home and the people who reside there. It is important to display your art in a way that is both practical and beautiful.

Proper framing and lighting will let your pictures and paintings tell their stories in the best way possible. Contemporary art is often presented unframed. The idea is that a frame detracts from the actual piece; that the painting should be the one and only focus. The edges of the canvas art are left visible to accentuate not just the picture, but also the process of making the picture. Paintings with a lot of texture are frequently displayed without a frame so the viewer can experience the contours of the paint without any obstruction. A lot of very large paintings are also left unframed simply because a frame that big is impractical and, if it were made, would be very expensive. Each original, oil-on-canvas painting on our website represents a moment of time captured through the photographic eyes of the artist himself.

If you want a room to have a classic feel, framed art is the way to go. Framed art has a very long tradition as the way paintings are "supposed" to be shown. Every charming wooden panel in our Carved Relief Collection is lovingly handmade by a dedicated family of master artisans in Guanajuato, Mexico. The art form, now spanning three generations, begins by exquisitely carving a traditional design in bas-relief, then staining and painting the textured surface in striking colors. The three-dimensional aspect of the solid wood carving cannot be replicated by a painting alone, and adds immensely to the unique appeal of the artwork. The calming images of rural Mexican life will infuse charm and beauty anywhere in your home.
