Coconut Folk Art from Mexico

April 15, 2014

Mexico abounds with a variety of arts and crafts. Some of the art is influenced by the Meso American period of their history with Aztec and Mayan design. In others, you see the strong Christian religious emphasis of arts and crafts created for religious events. Much of the art is made from the natural resources of Mexico including silver, clay, wood, and coconuts.

According to figures published in December 2009 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Mexico is the world's seventh largest producer of coconuts. No wonder, coconut folk art is so popular!
