Decorating Your Home with Orange

March 3, 2016

Orange is the most controversial color in the spectrum, but its warmth and personality can charm almost anyone. Orange is a blend of yellow and red, and in its truest form, it's an equal mix of the two. But it ranges from almost red to bright tangerine. It's the color of sunsets and tropical fruit, and it is undeniably cheery and bold. In decor it can be a bright pop of color or a more muted background color used to warm up a room.

If you're looking to add a punch of energy to your space, then orange is your color. For instance, an Original Oil Painting featuring something like Orange Daisies will instantly brighten your wall. Warm colors like orange give off an energy and intensity unmatched by their cooler cousins. Use these hues in spaces where you anticipate and want activity, like an outdoor living room or family room.

Contrary to popular belief, adding color to a room without a lot of natural light helps brighten the room and makes it feel larger.

If you're taking your first foray into orange, start with a few furnishings in a muted shade. Our Copper Furniture Collection adds just the effect you may be in search of. Each piece of copper blends together the rich colors of red, brown, orange, yellow and black which are fired directly into the copper. As the colors are random and not controllable, each piece is truly unique and one of a kind.

One of the best ways to show off a color is to combine it with its complementary hue. Blue, which sits across from orange on the color wheel, assists to create a vibrant, energetic outdoor living space. Even simply adding some Cobalt Blue and White Glassware pieces to your home will complement your new design.

Not quite ready to take the plunge into orange? Add pops of the hue with accessories such as an Orange Sacred Heart Nicho. Traditional Mexican nichos are considered household altars and usually depict religious figures such as the Virgin of Guadalupe or patron saints, but can vary with other themes like Day of the Dead and Loteria. They are used as shrines for protection or devotional objects, and are therefore expertly handmade from tin and glass with beautifully painted depictions.
