Folk Artist Spotlight - Carlos & Albert

August 20, 2013

Welcome to a world of fantasy, imagination, humor and color by Carlos Munoz Garcia and Albert Ickenroth, better known as "Carlos & Albert". The imaginative and fanciful Carlos and Albert Folk Art Collection is the unique collaborative effort of two individuals from vastly diverse cultures. They have combined their talents to create unique and whimsical art sculptures. They work in ceramic, clay, fiberglass, paper mache, and bronze. All of their creations evoke a unique sense of imagination and wonder. They use human qualities in their pieces to bridge the emotional gap to the animal kingdom. The resulting human like sculptures are filled with personality and charm. All of these collectible pieces are limited editions, numbered and signed by the artists, and include a signed certificate of authenticity.

Albert is a native Dutchman, where he studied art and culture as a youth, became enamored of the great masters, and ultimately discovered his talent for working in paper mache, bronze and copper. In the mid-1970's he vacationed in Mexico and was fascinated by the people, culture, colors and wildlife. He returned on a more permanent basis and met Carlos Munoz, a native Mexican who also studied art. The two began working together as the Carlos-Albert team in 1990, creating life-size and larger animals in porcelain as well as paper mache.

Their work pays tribute to the many Mexican masters who have come before them, but they have developed a style that is uniquely their own. Their enduring fascination with Mexico is clearly evidenced in their exuberant use of color and pattern; indeed the influences of both of their cultures are present in the Carlos and Albert's folk art.

Most of the apprentice artisans who went to work with Carlos and Albert at the inception of their business are still with them today. When you tour the studio there is an atmosphere of positive energy and joy in the work environment that is reflected in the creation of their art. Each original figurine pictured on these web pages is one of a limited edition of 150, meticulously hand painted and signed by the artists. They add warmth and expression to homes throughout the world, and inspire the hearts of children and adults alike. They are an exceptional value certain to appreciate in worth over the years, and having received the classification as Master Artisans in their trade, a certificate of authenticity signed by Carlos and Albert accompanies each piece.

"The creativity of two worlds comes together in each piece that we craft," Carlos and Albert explain. "Our own individual personalities find expression in every design."
