Invigorating Aztec Interior Styling

January 25, 2018

Use invigorating Aztec interior styling to enliven the rooms in your home! Mexican design has been noticeably influenced for nearly a century by the bold, bright, exotic and symbolic art of the Mexican Aztec culture and now is the perfect time to incorporate some into your very own home.

Aztec culture also known as Mexica culture, was a Mesoamerican culture that flourished in central Mexico in the post-classic period from 1300 to 1521, during the time in which a triple alliance of the Mexica, Texcoca and Tepaneca tribes established the Aztec empire.

Mix and match interior design styles like Modern with pre-Columbian for a color palette of eclectic folk art . A coach tufted yellow leather cushions, a classic white egg chair, a gnarled petrified wood coffee table gives you high-energy decor. Over a sofa you might consider brighter yellow pendant lighting which becomes functional art in your space. Toss a hand-made throw pillow on a chair and bright blue vase on table, and you've captured the dynamic spirit of a once-powerful civilization.

Mexica art (the name the Aztecs called themselves) was typically adornment of practical or religious items, and progressed from repeated straight and angular geometric shapes to stylized figures of plants and animals. Early objects were red and black -- a deep-red fired clay painted with black lines and patterns.

The Aztecs loved intense red and orange flowers, the shifting blues of the Caribbean, the hot tropical sky and dazzling blue jungle butterflies. A contemporary rug that re-imagines Aztec designs such as a zigzag pattern of shapes outlined in nested white and black lines on a blue background.

An Aztec-inspired Mirror is a showpiece on its own and an easy way to add that fun Aztec flair to a wall. For fun, our Aztec Emperor folk art piece is a conversation piece and truly unique!
