Behind the Design
Mayan Hammocks for Summer Relaxation
June 5, 2015
La Fuente Imports is proud to offer hand-woven Mayan Hammocks by Gilberto Rivera, a third generation artisan who weaves his hammocks in the same method and the same Oaxacan village as his Mixtec ancestors over a hundred years ago. Oaxacan style Mayan Hammocks are just the thing you need to embrace the moments in life we need to take for ourselves.
Hammocks were developed by native inhabitants of Central and South America for sleeping. Later, they were used aboard ships by sailors to enable comfort and maximize available space, and also by explorers or soldiers traveling in wooded regions and eventually by parents in the 1920's for containing babies just learning to crawl.
Unlike American-style hammocks with spreader bars that tend to be unstable and may even flip you out, Mayan hammocks are designed to envelop your body to keep you safely and comfortably in the hammock. They are also compact and lightweight; perfect for backpacking, camping, or using on cycling or climbing trips.
Woven in a crisscross 'diamond' pattern from high strength nylon cord, Gilberto's hammocks contour to fit the user, allowing tension to spread evenly beneath the body. This makes them effective in relieving backaches and minor body tension, not to mention they're so darn comfortable! Every Mayan Hammocks we offer is woven of 100% nylon cord and is ideal for indoor or outdoor use. They are simple to use and will add hours of relaxation and naptime to your life! The hammock is often seen as symbol of summer, leisure, relaxation and simple, easy living.
Thanks to an increasing number of medical studies, people everywhere are discovering that hammocks have an incredible number of health benefits too. Who knew? Hammock sleepers are reporting that due to the fact that there are zero pressure points, they are being helped with back pain, hip pain and even chronic insomnia. Oaxacan Mayan Hammocks are available in many festive colors and fit in to any décor.
