Behind the Design
New Folk Art by Jesus Guerrero Santos
March 31, 2014
Jesus Guerrero Santos is a Mexican national treasure. We featured this amazing Mexican artist in an article last September, Folk Artist Spotlight – Jesus Guerreros, and we're happy to report that we have recently added a large selection of new art to our online gallery. Senor Guerrero's enormous talent in the field of fine ceramics has led to his repeated selection as the creator of honorary gifts for visiting dignitaries such as Pope John Paul II.
Born and living in the state of Jalisco, Santos studied architecture, philosophy, and humanities as a young man, but for the past fifteen years has devoted himself to studying the history of glazed ceramics from the sixteenth century to the present. His work has evolved over this time period to include beautifully designed and hand painted ceramics adorned with alpaca, a balanced mixture of silver, copper, and nickel. The production of each ceramic is carefully thought out. The forms are made by hand, the size, shape, and thickness of each item is consistent. Santos also paints each item by hand, ultimately kiln-firing them at a very high temperature to create a strong and durable finish.
La Fuente Imports is honored to present many new creations of Master Artisan Jesus Guerrero Santos, one of the most respected artists of contemporary Mexican ceramics, and whose works can be viewed in fine galleries and art museums throughout the world.
