Wine barrels, especially those made of oak, have long been used as containers in which wine is aged. Aging in oak typically imparts desirable vanilla, butter and spice flavors to wine. The size of the barrel plays a large role in determining the effects of oak on the wine by dictating the ratio of surface area to volume of wine with smaller containers having a larger impact. Oak is used in winemaking to vary the color, flavor, tannin profile and texture of wine. It can be introduced in the form of a barrel during the fermentation or aging periods, or as free-floating chips or staves added to wine fermented in a vessel like stainless steel. Oak barrels can impart other qualities to wine through evaporation and low level exposure to oxygen.

Our Wine Country Furniture is constructed from reclaimed wine and whiskey barrels. By repurposing oak barrels, this collection gives a second life to quality wood and saves thousands of barrels from the typical waste stream.

The Barrel Side Table with Shelf is a beautiful little table that will fit into any room and a great starter piece for your new space. Whether it's the unique serving centers, wine bottle displays, or elegant side tables, the furniture is all handmade from recycled white oak wine barrels. Prior to their reclamation, the original barrels were handmade and burnished to enhance certain flavors in the wine making process. This leads to uniquely shaped and colored staves of wood that are reused to create these stylish furniture pieces. To complement the unique textures and shades of the wood, each piece is now available finished in any one of eleven hand-rubbed transparent stains. The resulting furniture pieces have a casual appeal and yet are sophisticated enough for any decor.
