Bring the Sunshine Inside Your Home

May 1, 2019

Whether a swath of canary or a hint of golden, bring the sunshine inside your home with yellow wall paint, decor, and accents.

As we all know, color choices play an important role in our daily lives from the clothes we wear to the cars we drive. According to studies, our choice of one color over another color may have something to do with the way color makes us feel.

For this reason, color choices in our homes have a large impact on the comfort level. If you want your home to "feel" a certain way or bring out a person's mood, that can be achieved with color. Color can make a person feel relaxed, make a person happy, and even increase one's appetite.

For example, if you want your living room to make your family and guests feel peaceful, calm and relaxed, you might consider using blue. Blue brings out feelings of calm, peacefulness and stability. Blue is often used on websites and in business because it also represents reliability and loyalty. Green is also a good soothing, calming color. It represents nature, good health, and cleanliness.

Today we focus on the fun color, yellow! Yellow portrays the bliss of sunshine and communicates happiness. It feels expansive and welcoming. Yellow helps you concentrate and increases your metabolism. The color yellow is perfect for hacienda kitchens, dining rooms, hall, entries, and other small spaces.

Interior designer, Tara Seawright, shares how she created a bold statement with minimal commitment. "The challenge behind a yellow bedroom I recently designed was how to add color for a color-phobic client." "She wanted color but had a million excuses as to why she just couldn't pull the trigger. If this is your hurdle when decorating, try adding color in ways you can easily switch out if you get bored or change your mind — like the bedding, pillows, a piece of art or even a small rug." If you love the idea of waking up to sunshine every morning, yellow is a great color.

Yellow is cheery, uplifting without being overbearing. In small rooms, it can visually expand the space. Although yellow is considered an energetic color, soft, buttery shades can help create a bedroom that is a serene retreat.

Softer shades are perfect for bedrooms decorated in a cottage or eclectic style, and they look great behind nearly any shade of furniture, from painted white to dark wood. Yellow is whimsical; you can pair it with traditional furnishings for a look that is stately without looking stuffy. If you prefer a more modern style, try a strong but muted shade such as goldenrod.

After painting the walls your favorite yellow hue, how will you accent the space? Or maybe you might decide to leave the walls a neutral color and add pops of yellow through home accessories?
