Dial up the Zest at Mealtimes
October 14, 2017
Dial up the zest at mealtimes with doses of snappy orange on dining room walls and your furniture and accessory choices!
Dining rooms seem to be the one room in the house that goes in and out of fashion. When I was young, having a separate dining room was something special. Now the open plan dining area seems to be the fashion. The dining room basically consists of a dining table and a quantity of chairs. Depending on the space available a buffet, dresser or some sort of serving table is often included.
Orange is a high-energy, fun and friendly color, so it's perfect for the room where we break bread with family and friends. Orange oozes confidence. The easiest way to bring bold orange into your dining room is to pick a hue you like and paint a wall or two.
Having trouble selecting the right orange? Pull a shade out of a favorite throw pillow, painting or upholstery fabric. If it is likely a color you are drawn to, it will coordinate well with the decorative item that inspired it.
A red-orange paint color is not for the timid. Make it work by keeping the other colors in the room light and neutral. I'd also recommend limiting the number of attention-getting home accessories; otherwise the space can become overwhelming.
When you have dramatic wall color, adding monochromatic accessories is a great choice. Copper vases from Mexico are textured, dramatic and coordinate beautifully with orange walls as they are both are warm hues. Our selection of handcrafted artisan vases are hammered from a single piece of copper; no soldering, casting, or molds are used. Due to the extreme handmade nature of these vases each one is unique in color, shape and texture.
