3 Living Room Decorating Mistakes to Avoid
August 5, 2019
Everyone loves to try their hand at decorating their home. After all, it is your safe haven and you can choose to decorate and style it however you want. But there are some things that you must keep in mind before doing so. Make sure that you are not making these common decorating mistakes at home:
1.) Displaying Everything in Your Living Room
Your living room is a place where you spend a lot of your time and even entertain close friends and acquaintances, so you want to showcase all the things you love. We suggest you keep those things to a minimum as it doesn’t reflect elegance. Placing the paintings, mirrors, sculptures, vases, and pottery in one area will make it look overwhelming and many things won’t seem to go well with the other furnishings.
Avoid showing things you love a lot like your record or painting collection. Knickknacks, mantels, rugs, and pictures are also a bit over the top. So just choose 2-3 things that you can display in different areas of the living room.
2.) Playing Matchy-Matchy
Just like wearing matching clothes and accessories seems over the top, the same applies to decorating. There is a difference between following a theme and matching everything together. Decorate with objects that complement each other; otherwise, it will seem as if it is a kid’s room. It should have a tasteful contrast such as dark brown furniture with bright colored curtains and rugs.
3.) Covering All the Walls
Let your room breathe by not covering it with paintings, pictures or mirrors. You can create a wall space where you can hang all your art pictures or better yet, place them in frames on the coffee table.
