Tips for Decorating Your Hacienda
September 25, 2014
The word Hacienda in Spanish means estate. Haciendas are huge in size and are considered a symbol of status and wealth. Hacienda home style is more than four centuries old and features rugged beauty with rich colors and usage of natural materials. A home designed in the hacienda style represents Mexico's past, giving emphasis to traditional architecture and handcrafted elements. To decorate your very own home in this style, combine Rustic Mexican Furniture with Spanish Colonial objects with modern ideas of comfort and luxury. The result will be a striking balance between the old and new.
When decorating your Hacienda, whether actual or implied, consider thinking of each room as a painting , and the boundaries of each room as its frame. When decorating, keep these "frames" in mind, and decorate within, as opposed to through them. In other words, keep the elements of one room's décor clearly within that room.
You may establish a theme for your entire Hacienda, or maybe just one floor, but do not blend rooms into each other. Keep each room clearly defined and each "painting" inside its frame. For example, make it clear where your Mexican Kitchen ends, and where the living room begins.
