Description
Sugar skulls are a traditional folk art from Mexico used in Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations. Part of the festive decorations, the sugar skulls are painted with brightly colored icing and can even be decorated with sequins, glitters and colored foils. Detailed instructions for creating your sugar skulls are included with every order. We also strongly recommend ordering the 'Sugar Skulls Decorating Kit' (below), which includes an 8-ounce jar of Meringue powder for hardening the molds and making the icing, an assortment of 6 concentrated food color pastes, and 10 icing bags + zip ties for easily making perfect sugar skulls. Measurements
Each mold creates six small sugar skulls measuring 1 1/2"W x 1"D x 2"H.
Materials
The basic ingredients for sugar skulls are: Granulated sugar, Meringue powder (1 teaspoon per cup of sugar), water (1 teaspoon per cup of sugar), and cardboard squares for backing. The royal icing ingredients are: Powdered sugar, Meringue powder (1/4 cup per pound of powdered sugar), water (1/3 cup per pound of powdered sugar), and concentrated food color paste. Other decorations such as sequins, glitters and colored foils are optional. Detailed instructions are included with every order!
