Furniture defines the décor of your home but considering the number of styles available in the market, choosing the right furniture to go with your décor theme can get tricky. Let’s have a look at the major styles to clear up the confusion surrounding the types of furniture, once and for all!
Antique Furniture
Any piece of furniture that is at least a hundred years old is considered antique by definition. Most antiques are crafted out of wood and their value depends on a number of factors like age, design, style, material, condition etc.
Vintage Furniture
Vintage furniture is often confused with antique because both styles are basically different types of old furniture. The difference lies in ‘how’ old the article is. A piece of furniture that is anywhere between 20 to100 years old, can be categorized as vintage. They are easy to spot and you can easily associate them with a particular era.
French Provincial Style Furniture
These are the furniture styles that were popular in the provinces of France in the 17th and 18th century, hence the name – French Provincial Style Furniture. Along with large armories, the French sideboards carved with decorative moldings are a major characteristic of this style.
Traditional Furniture
Furniture styles from the Victorian era are categorized as traditional. It combines the styles from Queen Anne period, Chippendale style and Sheraton style. Mostly, traditional furniture is very graceful. It is handcrafted out of dark timber and is elaborately decorated.
Retro Furniture
By definition, the articles of furniture that just went out of fashion can be categorized as retro. In other words, it is the styles that used to be highly popular in the recent past. Retro furniture keeps evolving as the trends and fashion of furniture changes over time.
Rustic Furniture
Rustic furniture has a ‘worn out’ feel to it. It is usually crafted out of timber wood and natural materials like animal hide and linen. Over the years, it has been influenced by a number of styles and works to create a homely and relaxed interior.
