Description
Handmade in the Oaxacan village of San Martin, these beautifully painted paper-mache skulls reflect the outstanding skill of the artists. Highly detailed with a matte finish, each Fino Quality Skull is adorned with delicate "grecas" like those found at the Zapotec palace of Mitla. The grecas, a series of repeating geometric designs, symbolize pre-Columbian gods like Quetzalcóatl, Tláloc or Cosijo, natural elements like the sun, rain or lightning, and elements of humanity like fertility or knowledge.
