Description
Sugar skulls are a traditional Mexican folk art used in Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations. Part of the festive decorations, sugar skulls are painted with brightly colored icing and may even be decorated with sequins, glitters and colored foils. Measurements
Each mold creates six small sugar skulls or chocolate candies measuring 1 1/2"W x 1"D x 2"H.
Materials
The basic ingredients for sugar skulls are: Granulated sugar, Meringue powder (1 teaspoon per cup of sugar), water (1 teaspoon per cup of sugar), and cardboard squares for backing. The royal icing ingredients are: Powdered sugar, Meringue powder (1/4 cup per pound of powdered sugar), water (1/3 cup per pound of powdered sugar), and concentrated food color paste.
