This whimsical clay catrina figurine was handmade by artist Juan Jose Soteno in his home outside of Mexico City. It is a classic example of Mexican folk art. Juan Jose is the third generation of Sotenos to work with clay, a legacy which spans 60 years in the same modest home. Much of his artwork is inspired by Mexico's annual Day of the Dead celebrations, which take place from October 31 through November 2.
