Handmade in the Oaxacan village of San Martin, these beautifully painted paper-mache skulls reflect the outstanding skill of the artists. Highly detailed with a matte finish, each Fino Quality Skull is adorned with delicate "grecas" like those found at the Zapotec palace of Mitla. The grecas, a series of repeating geometric designs, symbolize pre-Columbian gods like Quetzalcóatl, Tláloc or Cosijo, natural elements like the sun, rain or lightning, and elements of humanity like fertility or knowledge. They also symbolize universal consciousness, and as such, represent the bond between human existence and the divine.
